Words and Photos

Yesterday I spoke to many business owners around the Square about the new newsletter with good results. The idea will be discussed at the next meeting of the Historic Town Square coalition.
Snapped some photos like this one for possible use in the logo of the newsletter and this blog.
What's the angle?
The purpose of this blog is to tell you about what's happening "on the square" in Carbondale, Illinois. To better accomplish this task, a print edition, beginning the week after Lights Fantastic will be distributed free at businesses in the district. That's the plan . . . with the help and support of the businesses surrounding the parking lot/park we call "the square" here. In future issues/posts, the fate of two old buildings: the old Bank of Carbondale, the building that once housed an old masonic temple before becoming a latter-day trendy restaurant. And new businesses, like Global Gourmet and Newell House Cafe; and new improvements to businesses that have been there "forever" such as Hair Brains, Tres Hombres and ABC Liquor (Not to mention Dillingers Feed Store, a stone's throw from the square, which really has been there forever). Business leadership is being shown in this area on many fronts: up Washington St, where WDBX, the Big Muddy IMC, Cadillac Lounge, on Jackson St., where Elaine Ramseyer has spearheaded the Historic Town Square Business Coaltion, a group comprised of local businesses, city and university representatives, such as the ubiquitous Kevin Clark.
The print edition of "On the Square" will be in 8.5 x 11 inch newsletter format, with the latest on what's happening at various businesses and buildings around the square. Coupons will be included too.
Note on the look of this blog: the images above will soon be of "the square."
