Beautifying Town Square
Although Carbondale Town Square doesn't 'have it all', some excellent restaurants and specialty stores can be found. Where else in the world can you buy imported cigars, shoes, guitars, trophies, art, lumber and feed within short walking distance!? Nowhere else in the world!
Carbondale Main Street has done a pretty good job in beautifying Town Square. The Pavilion/Parking Lot area looks pretty good, but could look a lot better. A geodesic dome is one suggestion. A train station is another. A mural along the tracks is another. An identifying sign on the Picnic Shelter. Something anything. Perhaps a hologram of this scene: How it used to look.I heard the guy who owns the Newell House (Bening Square) Building has bought the old Herald Printing building.... A huge space.... that could become a live performance venue eventually.
People are also talking about a greenway along the tracks from Town Square to Grand Avenue. I've spoken to local businesses and people in the city about putting a low-walled mural along the tracks. With the railroad's cooperation that could happen.
